General Situation
21 August 2026The monsoon trough move to lies across the upper North and the Laos into the tropical depression over Hainan, China while the rather strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf is weakening. Isolated heavy rains are forecast in Thailand and isolated very heavy rains are possible in the North and the Central. People in the areas should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulation that may cause flash floods, overflows and landslides especially along the waterways near foothills and lowlands. The rather strong winds force the waves in the upper Andaman Sea up to be 2-3 meters high and above 3 meters high in thundershowers. In the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf, the waves are expected about 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers, small boats in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore. In addtion, the active low-pressure cell over Hainan, China has developed to tropical depression. This storm is likely to make landfall over the South of Guangdong, China during 23-24 August 2026. This storm will not move to Thailand and no direct effect on Thailand’s weather. The travellers should check weather information before start the journey.

From Surat Thani northward: Southwesterly winds 20-35 km./hr. Wave height 1-2 meters, about 2 meters offshore.and above 2 meters in thundershowers.
